Lesson 22 / 25

LinkedIn and Personal Site Alignment

Consistent facts across every profile.

Same facts, different depth

Reviewers often check more than one profile, so make the facts identical: job titles, employers, dates, degrees and project names. Each platform can have a different depth. LinkedIn can have a short headline describing what you do, an About section in plain language, roles with a few highlights, and links to projects. A personal site is optional; if you have one, keep it simple and fast, with an about section, a few projects with write-ups, a link to your resume and contact details. Write-ups about what you built or learned can be a strong signal, but only if you keep them accurate and reasonably up to date.

One consistent, honest story everywhere

Your resume, GitHub, LinkedIn and site should tell the same true story, improved through feedback.

Four ideas: aligning profiles, feedback loops, special situations, and a final checklist.

An alignment check

Compare the same facts across profiles.

Fact Resume LinkedIn GitHub / site
------------------- -------------------- -------------------- --------------------
Current title Software Engineer Software Engineer Software Engineer
Employer and dates Northwind, 2023-now Northwind, 2023-now (not needed)
Main projects shiplog, tiny-queue shiplog, tiny-queue pinned: same two
Location Bengaluru Bengaluru Bengaluru
Contact email + links links email

LinkedIn headline, weak: "Seeking opportunities | Passionate | Hardworking"
LinkedIn headline, better: "Backend engineer | Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL"

Review the public view

Look at your LinkedIn and GitHub while logged out or in a private window to see what reviewers actually see.
